Getting a good expression can’t be practiced. I know you all have that bathroom mirror look honed to perfection, but that hardly works in a portrait. You’d be surprised what people think looks “sexy”. In reality, it boils down to being yourself and letting go.

The beauty of being yourself is that there’s no one else to compare yourself to. But what if you can’t be yourself? What if it’s too hard to let go? What if you have a million judgements about yourself? Well, being yourself isn’t as hard as you think. And honestly, it’s my job to let you become yourself in front of the camera.

If you’ve shot with me before, you know that most of the time I’m bumping my head into the light stand, forgetting to take off my lens cap, and trying to figure out how the lights work. All this glamour you see in the final images isn’t really going on during the shoot. But it isn’t about being fancy. It’s about being real. And that’s what I want you to keep in mind when you book a session with me. This is about who you are, not about who you want to be.

I see beauty in everyone who steps foot through my door and I know how to get that into my camera. All you have to do is let go and have a good time. I’ll direct and pose you and the rest just comes naturally.

The girl in the image is Brittany. I’ve gotten to know her over the course of a few sessions and it’s amazing to me the transformation that happens after each of our shoots. Her confidence and self esteem always go way up. It’s an amazing feeling to see images of yourself that you didn’t think were possible.

Don’t let your inner dialogue keep you from booking a session. Just let go and let me do the rest. It could be the best thing you’ve done for yourself all year.

California – 2012

Spent a jam packed week in southern California with stops to Jay Leno, Chip Foose, George Bariss, Carson Lev, the RCX convention, and much more. I even had the chance to shoot up to Burbank to see my uncle-in-law and spend a few hours at his beautiful home. It’s crazy how fast time goes by during trips like these. It’s 6 straight days of 7am – 11pm. Totally worth it though. Met a lot of great people and learned a ton. I’ll post the professional photos and videos once I get the go ahead, but in the meantime, here are a few pics I snapped on instagram:

Let’s face it. The modern world has a warped perspecitve of what beauty is. We’re forced to look at images of disproportionate bodies and unrealistic complexion. Most women end up in a race against themselves for the sliver of a chance that they’ll one day feel good enough. You don’t have to feel that way though. You can make a change in how you feel about yourself at any moment. Why not right now? Don’t wait until you lose 10 more pounds, until you get that new job, or after you get that new hair style. Feel beautiful today.
